T
he majlis, the educational agency of the Jamaat –e- Islami Kerala has made great inroads into the territory of religious revival in the state and has made hefty contributions to its educational and cultural domains. In founding the Majlis, the Jamaat had envisioned an educational system which frames Islam as a complete system of life. As early as 1950, the Jamaat was making a conscious effort to set up an edifice of education that it had been holding dear for long.

In the meantime a number madrsas, secondary schools and colleges have been set up by Jamaat exponents and workers across the state. It wasin this context that in 1979 Majlisu Ta’aleemil Islami,Kerala was launched primarily for supervising these institutions and secondly for embarking upon a programme of renovation and standardization of the curricula offered by them.

Right now, the Majlis undertakes a number of activities such as preparing the syllabus and year plan, holding of inspections, orientation programmes and examinations, conduct of distant education programme, cultural fests and teacher welfare programmes.


Those who rendered able leadership in the field of Islamic education in Kerala since the inception of the Islamic Movement were: KC Abdullah Moulavi, P Mohammed Abdul Jalal Moulavi, T Ishaqali Moulavi, and T.K Abdullah.They formulated a curriculum and syllabus combining traditional religious disciplines and selected topics of modern education.

The Executive Council

Presently formulation of rules and regulations for regulating the day-to-day activities of the Majlis is done by an Executive Council comprising eleven members. Presently, Jb T. Arifali, O. Abdul Rahman and Mohammedali A. are the Chairman, Vice Chairman and the Secretary of the Council respectively. The general body of the Majlis comprising 46 members plans its activities and programmes and also approves the annual budget. The general body holds its meetings at least once a year.

The Academic Councils:

There are four academic councils: they are the English medium, Malayalam medium, madrasa and college councils. Six Regional Madrasa Academic Councils supervise the functioning of the Madrasas in the respective regions, coordinated by a Madrasa Academic Council Executive at the Majlis.
Reorganized at beginning of each academic year, there councils supervise the academic aspects of each category of the institutions.

Teacher Enrichment Programmes

The majlis organizes periodic teacher orientation programmes for teachers of affiliated institutions with a view to enhance the teacher repertoire which is essential for efficient classroom transaction.




 
 
 
 
   
 
Inspections

The Majlis holds periodic inspection of the institutions affiliated to it. The inspection covers araes like classroom transactions, extra curricular activities, facilities, infrastructure, developmental plan etc.

Muallim Welfare Fund

This fund is raised by way of stamp sale to students of affiliated institutions and donations from the public. The fund is utilized for assisting the staff working in majlis affiliated institutions to cover occasional expenditure for housing, education, marriage, repayment of debts etc.
